Field Notes

Description:

The biggest mushroom in the photos had a diameter of 20-25 cm.

Habitat:

Spotted these mushrooms in Hacıosman korusu, a temperate pine forest in Istanbul.

Notes:

Some of the same mushrooms (not the ones in the photos) where decaying and turning black and slimy. The decaying ones would release a strong and unpleasant odor if disturbed, you could smell the odor from 50 meters away.

Great spotting, Mustafa. Did you see a ring on the stem? If so can you perhaps recall if it had a brown ring or a more yellow ring? A brown ring could indicate the slipery jack (Suillus luteus), and the larch bolete (Suillus grevillei) has a yellowish ring.

They definitely looks like Suillus species, I'm guessing Suillus Collinitus. Anyone could confirm?
