Field Notes

Description:

I came across this egg shell on a walk today. I was on a track between agricultural fields and heading towards a small river, and the egg shell was just laying on the pathway. There were no signs of a nest and no trees or bushes around. The egg was about the size of a small chickens egg. I had seen Skylarks, Sparrows and Magpies flying around and had heard a Cuckoo.

I have seen eggs similar to this from ducks. Might fit the area.
