Brown Birch Bolete?
Leccinum scabrum?
53.2728, -1.98318
Field Notes
Description:
Growing under a birch tree, perhaps 20cm high. No distinctive smell, no discolouration when stem was split. The pores bruised pale to medium brown. If I can identify the texture on the stem as being reticulation rather than scabers then perhaps it could be Boletus edulis, however descriptions say there is no colour change of B. edulis when the pores are bruised. I chopped the cap up (including some of the pores) and ate it in a cornish pasty, there was no bitter taste which rules out Tylopilus felleus
