Field Notes

Description:

Bracket fungi, hemispherical in shape; deep brown with a mustard yellow margin; velvet surface; no stem; approximately 1.5 inches wide. Pore surface deep brown with purple tinge. Pores tiny, 6-8/mm.

Habitat:

Growing in overlapping clusters on a fallen hardwood log in a primarly deciduous woods.

Notes:

Formerly called Phellinus gilvus.
