Description:

Very pretty green and black hopper with red eyes. About 8 mm long. Maybe from the Family Dictyopharidae? Or Cixiidae?

Habitat:

Heavy shrubbery along the highway between San Cristobal de Las Casas and Tuxtla Gutierrez, km 11.5, 865 meters.

Thank you bayucca. I had thought it might be a Derbid because of the small underwings, even though it doesn't carry the wing raised. Looking through other possibilities, it looks closer to a Dictyopharid. Still…..hope there is an expert on these out there.

Certainly a planthopper, but I am a little bit sceptic about Derbidae. I would have thought of some kind of a Cixiidae or similar, but there are many other planthoppers which look similar. I am not so familiar with all these details...
