Description:

About 14mm long body. Intricate patterns on the abdomen. Banded legs. This one attending to some kind of bug.

Habitat:

Web was extended between tall grass stems in a suburban nature reserve.

That was what I said when I heard it. I am very not certain of that id either :-(
It looks like it may be a member of the new genus of Orb Weavers in Araneidae. It is called Plebs. I am not really sure of the data yet but there are references Zoological Journal of the Linnean Society, 2012, 166, 279–341. MATHEW M. JOSEPH and VOLKER W. FRAMENAU
