Field Notes

Description:

**up to 4'2" large, dark brown blotches on back edged with n arrow whitish or yellow lines; pattern faded in older individuals. Head wide, top solid brown.

Habitat:

**Winters in communal dens.
Forests, chaparral, grasslands, rocky areas, mtns to 11k'
range: all of california except SE deserts

Notes:

This individual was young and approx. 13" long.
