Field Notes

Description:

I spotted these caspian terns resting on a sand bar near the mouth of the salt marsh and the ocean in Torrey Pines State Preserve, San Diego County, CA. The first photo shows the wing span length of one of the birds, the largest of all the tern species.

Notes:

The terns protested loudly when a California Brown Pelican dropped in for a visit.

Thanks, Alice. I was happy to have caught the wing span photo . I learned later that the caspians have the longest wingspan of all terns world wide. I've learned so much on project noah!
