Field Notes

Description:

The flowers are produced in racemes. The calyx is tubular. The corollas are claw shaped and two-lipped. The stamens are reduced to two short structures with anthers.

Habitat:

Forested area (conifers) in a hill.
Connecterra, Hoge Kempen, Maasmechelen.

Hmm the two species I mentioned are originally from Mexico so perhaps it is one of them or another close relative.
I find the same plant or a very close one when I go hiking to the mountains with oak and pine forest here in Mexico.
Definitely a Salvia sp. but not sure which one. S. patens has similar flowers but the growth pattern seems to be not right while cacaliifolia has flowers that look a bit different from this one. Hope someone else knows!
