Field Notes

Description:

Large polypore (6" or so) with a woody fruiting body somewhat reminiscent of hardened foam. The fungus had some glistening, maple-syrup-like liquid dripping from its cap.

Habitat:

Seen in the old-growth forest in Grove of the Patriarchs in Mount Rainier National Park. Spotted on a dead tree trunk with a trunk diameter greater than 3 feet.
