Cannonball Tree

Couroupita guianensis

Comments (4)

They are native to Brazil and yes, the flowers are quite large. It's the fruit that appears after that resembles a cannonball, hence its name.
I've never heard it called that and I can't find any reference to it as the Sand Paper tree, but I guess it's possible.
I think I've seen these in Brazil. Are the flowers quite big? They have a diSTINKtive smell but look marvellous
Thanks Dan. Long back I was looking for this tree. Is it also known as Sand paper tree?
