He was on the road that runs by campus. Took him to the pond on college campus.

I believe you're referring to me. Red-eared Sliders and painted turtles are in separate genera (sliders in Trachemys, painted turtles in Chrysemys). They differ in head and shell pattern but can be difficult to tell apart until you've seen a few.
