Field Notes

Description:

The meerkat is a small mammal in the suricate family, native to Africa. Meerkats live in family groups and have a highly sophisticated language for communicating danger, food and other necessities of life. They are incredibly sociable animals.

Of all mammals I have seen in zoo's, meerkats appear to be the most content as long as they have a suitable enclosure.

Notes:

This animal was photographed in Colchester Zoo.
