Description:

A very round foam feeling mushroom kind of felt like a nerf ball

Habitat:

In my yard after a few days of rain

Or... you can leave them to spore - and when ready they explode in a cloud of black dust!
Puffball. To be certain cut a cross section. If it is uniform and doesn't show sign of "mushroom parts(stem/cap)" then it is a puffball and edible. Saute in butter ... we have very small puffballs here, but the large ones can have a chunk cut out of them to cook, saving the rest for the next day
