Field Notes

Description:

Close-up of the massive species D. heliopora. In this picture you can see each individual polyp that makes up the coral colony. Diploastrea is a common genus of hard coral in the indopacific. It is hermatypic which means it is one of the sessile reef-building species.

Habitat:

Coral reefs

Notes:

Coral ID can be very tricky. Comparing the polyps of diploastrea to little volcanoes has helped me remember this species.
