Field Notes

Description:

The giraffe is our tallest land-living animal. Although related to other even-toed ungulates such as deer and cattle, giraffe belong to the Giraffidae family which they share only with the okapi.

Habitat:

Savannah

Notes:

The giraffe's fur contains antibiotics and parasite repellents, a protective mechanism that gives the animals a very characteristic smell.

This animal was photographed in Colchester Zoo.
