Description:

Almost fully ripe on 1st day of fall, second photo~ 9/23/11

Habitat:

Growing wild, near a cow pasture.The American Persimmon (Diospyros virginiana) is native to the eastern United States and is higher in nutrients like vitamin C and calcium. Its fruit is traditionally eaten in a special steamed pudding in the Midwest.

Yes, That is what I was told today! It will be ripe in the fall! I guess people make jelly or jam with this in Florida.

BTW ,if this is the tree you are thinking of eating from, then they are green and in the raw stage. The ripened fruits are a rich orange .

They are awesome in taste, Sweet of course. If not eaten at the right time ,then can be watery and bland tasting!

I have no problems at all with the round ones! The other variety , I feel that way ,"Only If I eat too fast.'

No, I do not! This one is growing wild, My buddy at work pointed it out today, I have never had one, it is not ripe now, but perhaps in the fall, I will try one! Do you have one? How do they taste?

Do you own one? The best persimmons I have eaten were the ones sold at Longs Drugs,our local pharmacy. The round variety is tastier . There is something about the other variety. If you eat it to fast ,it makes me feel like choking.....
