Field Notes

Description:

21 inch black bird. Flaps his wings frequently , has a cawing call.

Habitat:

Comes into our suburbs looking for bird's nests to steal either eggs or babies. It happened one day as I was watching. Smaller birds like the Mockingbird harrass it which is understandable when the crows go after their nests. Can be a pest on farms. Can you tell it is not my favorite bird?

I love crows! They fly in large flocks to the corn fields in the mornings. Our farmers give them corn. In the winters they hang out in the city at McDonalds.
Alice, Crows have been found to protect Quails and their family from Red Tailed hawks. Maybe they are protecting their future meal!
