Description:
Lagenophora stipitata, commonly known as "blue bottle-daisy" or "common lagenophora", is a member of the daisy family Asteraceae, found in eastern mainland Australia and Tasmania, and also from South East China to East Asia, Java, and New Guinea. Typical small "daisy" flower; and colours range from white, pink, purple to blue. Generally found in cooler shaded areas, this spotting was in a very exposed position and subject to weather extremes of heat and cold, plus fires raged through this area last year. Evidence of this can be seen in the last photo. This is a hardy species and these plants look very healthy, perfectly suited to this environment. The name of this national park is Girraween, which means "place of flowers".
Habitat:
Spotted along the Peak Trail in Girraween National Park, atop a massive granite dome. Surrounding area dry sclerophyll forest with sandy granite soils, substantial undergrowth and accumulated leaf litter, and foliage much greener and lush since the drought has broken. Sections of the track were still damp from recent rain, and pools of water found at various places across the dome.
