Field Notes

Description:

I believe this is a chipping sparrow (Spizella passerina) fledgling, but was unable to get a real close look at the parents as they were quite concerned with what I was doing with this baby.

Habitat:

Mixed forest.

Notes:

This little one had fallen out of a tree and did not appear to be able to fly at all yet. The concerned parents were actively circling and voicing their concern over me being there. I wasn't able to find the nest, but I put the baby as far back up into the tree as I could get and trusted that the parents would still try to care for the young one.
