Field Notes

Description:

short-lived aromatic shrub with many woolly erect stems; leaves are wavy; flowers yellow and connate

Habitat:

spotted in a coastal desert wadi (Wadi GNai) - many of these plants around but this was the only one with blooms, which we were surprised to see at this time of year

Notes:

aka Wild Mountain Tea; Used medicinally by local Bedouin to cure head colds as well as joint, limb, and back aches. Also mixed in an infusion with tea just for taste. This plant is also a favorite of the local goats!

Is this herb called rabil by the bedouins? It is my favorite tea, when I am in the desert. We found this herb in a wadi close to Gebel Um Ushtan, Barqa.
