Field Notes

Description:

This small brown moth/butterfly was seen in the middle of the day. As I hope you can see, the body seems fat and short compared to what is seen of the wings. The wings are not a solid brown. Rather, there are patches of another color (gray?) that become more noticeable further from the body.

Habitat:

While he/she is perched on what I believe is a giant blue liriope, he is in the middle of a butterfly friendly area.

Notes:

He/she was oddly patient with my picture taking odd did not fly off until I stood. Most butterflies I have encountered are much more apt to fly off if you get too near.
