Field Notes

Description:

Smaller orb-weaving spider with a body length of approximately 7 millimeters. Heavily patterned body as shown in the photograph, with the primary colors of white, black, green, and yellow. The body had an iridescent quality not apparent in the pictures.

Habitat:

This specimen was found on a horizontal orb web created between a potted plant and the railing of a deck, adjacent to a wooded area in Rockville, MD.

Notes:

I was not able to identify this spider any further than the likely family of Araneidae. I have seen several individuals of this species around the deck over the past few weeks.
