Field Notes

Description:

Erebidae; Arctiinae; Syntomini; Amata sp. This Moth is a wasp mimic. It has a yellow/orange abdomen with black bands (rather like many wasps).. The wings are black with translucent patches (not completely transparent - there is a touch of yellow/orange) and the antennae have white tips.

Habitat:

This Wasp Moth was spotted, in our backyard, on Tropical Whiteweed (Ageratum conyzoides Linn.). This plant is known in most parts of the Philippines as Bulak-manok and in the Dialect of the area where I live, it is called "Salunay".
