Field Notes

Description:

Adult in summer plumage. This particular gull really did appear to have only one leg as it hopped around as I tried to take its picture without ever showing another leg (which I had assumed was pulled up next to its body).

Habitat:

Spotted in the tropical south on the Gulf coast.

Notes:

This region contains a seabird sanctuary that cares for injured birds until they can fend for themselves. As you can see, the bird looks well fed.
Protected by the Migratory Bird Treaty Act.
