Laughing Gull
Larus atricilla
27.7949, -82.7947
Field Notes
Description:
Adult in summer plumage. This particular gull really did appear to have only one leg as it hopped around as I tried to take its picture without ever showing another leg (which I had assumed was pulled up next to its body).
Habitat:
Spotted in the tropical south on the Gulf coast.
Notes:
This region contains a seabird sanctuary that cares for injured birds until they can fend for themselves. As you can see, the bird looks well fed.
Protected by the Migratory Bird Treaty Act.
