Field Notes

Description:

The juveniles look like a different bird than the adults. The adults have almost totally orange-brown chests and dark grey heads and back feathers with white under their tails. This juvenile has black and white feathers on the chest and is just beginning to get the orange-brown on the sides of the chest. There were many of these birds pecking the leaves, I assume looking for bugs to eat.

Habitat:

This bird was flipping leaves in the woodland area in the Atlanta Botanic Gardens.
