Field Notes

Description:

A large soft-feathered, brown, flightless bird. It grows up to 2 metres (6.6 ft) in height. They have long necks and legs, and large amber eyes.

Habitat:

In mainland Australia, the emu is widespread. It lives in eucalypt forest, woodland, mallee, heathland and desert shrublands and sandplains. It is found in desert areas only after heavy rains have caused growth of herbs and grasses and heavy fruiting of shrubs. (From EOL)

Notes:

It is not native to this area. This bird was photographed in a wildlife park, At this point it was trying to eat my camera. Emu is the second tallest bird living today (the ostrich is the tallest)
