Field Notes

Description:

Is probably a male of the species. It has orange and an eye spot in the anterior wing but in the first picture it covers it with the posterior wing. After a long chasing I could not get a better shot.

Habitat:

Grasslands, prairies, forests.

I am yet not completely satisfied with the pic set..but it was really hard to get the butterfly to completely open its wings and it kept moving all over the prairy..and me behind..LOL I am going to need one of these nets to get them, make the pic an release them :-)
Good spot there, Marta, it looks so well camouflaged I think most people would have missed it! The close up on the first picture is wonderful, all those details are so clear :) Lovely!
