Field Notes

Description:

I spotted this insect recently (June 13th) and snapped some pictures. It was moving around pretty swiftly.

Habitat:

Chicago suburbs (Winfield, IL)

Notes:

Is it a type of grasshopper? It was not hopping while I observed it, definitely running.

Species ID Suggestions

Redheaded Ash Borer

Neoclytus acuminatus

Comments (3)

Perhaps it's a redheaded ash borer? It's definitely not a grasshopper, but rather it's a beetle: you can tell by the elytra.
