Description:
Medium-sized heron (55-65 cm tall) with entirely white plumage, black bill and black legs, except for the feet, which are yellow. The iris also has yellow. In the reproductive period, adults exhibit two characteristic lanceolate feathers on the crown, which can reach 16 cm, and also long ornamental feathers on the chest and back. Toes turn orange at height of courtship. Juveniles are similar to adults but do not have elongated feathers, their legs are greenish-black, and their feet are a less intense yellow.
Body mass, between 450-614 g in males and 490-530 g in females.
Habitat:
It was looking for food on the shores of the salty coastal lagoon of the Mar Menor (Murcia). Spain.
