Description:
Vibrant pink-orange zoned fruiting bodies that were 4-7 cm wide. Somewhat irregularly fan-shaped. The underside was smooth and cream colored, lacking pores.
Habitat:
Growing gregariously on a rotting log in a deciduous forest.
Notes:
Stereum ostrea is called the "False Turkey Tail" because it looks like "True Turkey Tail", Trametes versicolor. The major difference between the two is found underneath the cap: Stereum ostrea doesn't have pores, while Trametes versicolor has pores.
