Field Notes

Description:

Epiphytic orchid that was found in in the forests near this spotting location. The blooms last only one morning.

Habitat:

Was found on the forest flood, fallen out of the canopy. It's been attached to a wooden post now for a couple years.

Hmm, yeah, those do look very close. I see some images of E. nocturnum with reddish foliage but not sure if its that.
Thanks Dan. I just got a suggestion off of Facebook and I think it might be Epidendrum nocturnum, but E.carpophorum And E. tridens seem very similar. Also all the images of those orchids that I found on the internet showed bright green foliage and mine is purplish when young and remains reddish later on.
Beautiful orchid. I would think it's an Encyclia or something related.
