Field Notes

Description:

This is a medium sized moth that is approximately 20 mm in length and 12-15 mm in width. Eggs are laid on the leaves of host plants: cotton, tobacco, soybeans, deergrass, and toadflax. Once the eggs have hatched (3-5 days) the larva will feed on the host, preferably the buds. After about 18 days the larva drop and burrow underground to pupate (about 13 days).

Habitat:

open prairie
found on the side of common mullein
