Description:

Moth cocoon and larvae.
The moth is dark violet moth with five red spots in the anverse of the forewings. It is very similar to the Six-spot Burnet, Zygaena filipendulae, but the last one has six spots. The wingspan is 28-33 mm. Adults are on wing from the mid June to the beginning of August in one generation per year.

The larvae feed on the leaves of Lotus uliginosus and Lotus corniculatus. The species overwinters in the larval stage and may overwinter twice.

Habitat:

Spotted on rocks close to the sea shore.
