Around an inch in length. I think I spotted a queen on "flying ant day" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuptial_flight

I'm still not sure, probably a Oecophylla smaragdina queen that has not shed her wings yet. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weaver_ant Anyone?
nice one IanM. i really like this kind of ant species. very rare.
