I agree Shield-backed Bug is probably the best common name, since it actually is one ;-)...
I agree that the term shield backed bug is correct. "Shield " refers to those true bugs that have an enlarged scutellum, (The typical triangle section on the back of most bugs). In the family Scutelleridae, this shield covers both pairs of wings and so no split along the back, or wings are seem at all. This is why sometimes they are miss-recognized as beetle. You need to change the title of both spottings to something like Shield backed bug, or Jewel bug. http://www.brisbaneinsects.com/brisbane_stinkbugs/Scutelleridae.htm
