Description:

The black skimmer feeds by flying low over the water with the lower portion of its beak actually in the water skimming up food. See the second photo for a somewhat blurred photo of the skimmer feeding.

Habitat:

Tropical to subtropical, breeding on sandbanks and sandy beaches of the Americas.

Notes:

I noted 2 skimmers feeding together. Of course, they couldn't be side by side!
Protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act
