Field Notes

Description:

A member of the True Frog family (Ranidae) This medium sized frog is commonly mistaken for a type of leopard frog. You can ID this species by the squarish spots on it's back and it's apricot colored flashing on the thighs.

Habitat:

I found this at the entrance zone of Dunbar Cave. This and the bullfrog are the only species of frogs I have found in a cave.

Notes:

Pickerels can be seen later in the year than many other sympatric frogs.
