Field Notes

Description:

Saw this crawler on Ometepe. A bonanza of insects to see on this island. I'm sure there are some species that only live there since it is cut off from the rest of Nicaragua. It's like the Galapagos of Nicaragua...maybe. There used to be a freshwater shark that lived in this giant lake, Lake Nicaragua. But, it is rarely seen anymore and might be gone now. There are some great petroglyphs around the island as well. Carved into the volcanic basalt that makes up this 2-volcano island by some inhabitants thousands of years ago.

Habitat:

Tropical cloud forest.
