Field Notes

Description:

Very bright blue wings and tail which are dazzling in flight. Brown head and pale brown neck, rufous underparts. Red legs and feet. A large and distinctive coral-red bill with a black tip.

Habitat:

It sat patiently on a wire and observed the waters of a big artificial pond and then dived to come up with a small silvery fish, which it swallowed. This was spotted at Village Bawali, Kolkata.

Notes:

This large Kingfisher has a very loud call.
