Field Notes

Description:

Can anyone tell me what this is? Eggs of some insect? I saw it in a wildlife preserve in Illinois. It was on many different kinds of plants, but mostly close to the ground (say, no higher than two feet). I didn't see any insects on the masses or even very near the masses and I didn't see any kind of nymph type creatures in the vicinity of any of them either.

I think you should change this picture to Invertebrates category
That explains so very much! Yes, my first reaction when I saw the first cluster was that someone had spit on the plant. But then I saw that many plants had the same thing going on and I figured it had to be something a little more... organic to the environment. Thank you!
Froghopper or Spittle Bugs or Spit Bugs
Possible the same as this one!!! http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/6224970
