Field Notes

Description:

Cherries from a variety of trees (wild and cultivars) around my house. This year has seen a bumper crop, unlike 2010 when frost in May destroyed most of the fruit.

Habitat:

Native to Europe, west Turkey, northwest Africa, and western Asia, from the British Isles south to Morocco and Tunisia, north to the Trondheimsfjord region in Norway and east to the Caucasus, and northern Iran. A small disjunct population exists in the western Himalaya.

Notes:

There's bee a strong competition with this spotting for the cherries...

I've seen you sour cherries monkey-mind! :-) We have one sour cherry tree too which I should but in a separate spotting. There are so many cherries this year that many will be left for the birds to enjoy...

ah! they look great! In my garden there is a sweet cherry tree one one side it grows nearly black cherries, very sweet (the black birds love them too) - the other half grows sour cherries :)
