Field Notes

Description:

Small, colourful bird with red breast, dark head and white chin-strap.
Song is a repeated phrase of a clear note and then a sound like two stones being clacked together, giving the bird its name.

Habitat:

Heathland with scattered low gorse bushes and small silver birch trees.

Notes:

Pair feeding on flying insects, constantly singing and calling. These were joined for a while by a Dartford Warbler.
