Description:
A large water bird that reaches 70–90 cm (28–35 in) in length. Dark gray plumage. This is a juvenile or first year bird. Juveniles are distinguished by pale plumage on their upper chest and neck. This will darken as it ages. Hook-tipped bill. Sexes are similar.
Habitat:
Spotted at the Billy Frank Jr. Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge.
