Field Notes

Description:

Dark. Medium-sized. Black bill. Red rump is distinctive. Crest present. The upper parts are dark brown to black. Each feather is darker in the centre, so it gives a scaly appearance. Melodious singer.

Habitat:

Urban. This bird joins me everyday for crumbs as I have biscuits with coffee in the morning.

Notes:

Though known to be a fruit eater it ignores cut/ whole ripe fruits placed before it. It feeds on the crumbs side by side with the Common myna but is frightened by the House Crow and flies off when these arrive.
