Description:

Erebidae; Erebinae; Ophiusini; Grammodes geometrica (Fabricius, 1775). As is often the case, in grassy environments, this moth was hiding as deep as possible in the grass and leaf litter. From one perspective, the entire moth could be seen, without any grasses between it and the camera, but the shadows made a good photo impossible. Then, from another perspective, there were no shadows but grass or foliage was in the way. So, it becomes a personal challenge between the photographer and the moth. When I am the photographer, the moth usually wins, but this time I was lucky and got some photos which show the moth well enough for identification purposes.

Habitat:

This Erebid Moth was spotted in a rice field which was left uncultivated this season to allow the land to rest. When we do this, an amazing variety of grasses and foliage springs up very quickly and creates what I like to call a tropical meadow.
