I don't know about the subspicies, but have followed rufous backed shrike a lot. So, I know this bird like the back of my hand. A very smart mimicker of all noises, can copy a dogs yelp, frog noises etc with ease and perfection. Got good brain so much so that it imitates sounds of migratory birds long after they have migrated. Can confuse bird trackers to a great extent.
@p.young: Look at the beak - defo a shrike beak! :) @Satyen - sorry, just now saw your suggestion. You are correct: Long-tailed Shrike OR Rufous Backed Shrike 'Lanius schach' in this case - Subspecies: 'Lanius schach tricolor' (black head) I think :-)
