Description:

The male in his breeding colors (shown) is a bright and flashy bird. In flight white patches flash against the black wings. White underneath with a bright red patch on the breast. The bill is heavy and light-colored. The female is more drab (shown in the second photo).

Habitat:

Deciduous woodlands.
