Field Notes

Description:

The female hooded oriole is an all yellow bird with a curved beak. The hooded oriole male has a more striking black and yellow pattern. The hooded is one of 2 oriole species occurring in California, the other being the Bulock’s oriole.

Notes:

This oriole was observed at a fruit bird feeder. There was also a male, but he didn’t stay long enough to get his picture taken. These birds are largely fruit eating and can be enticed to feeders with halved oranges.
