Field Notes

Description:

small black mammal with white patches (rather than lengthwise stripes of the striped skunk)

Habitat:

temperate rain forest

Notes:

This one wasn't old enough to spray, but was rapidly developing the signs: thumping with one foot, then doing a handstand with tail up. They can squeeze through the tiniest of spaces. Locals call them (erroneously) "civet cats".

i wish ihad a baby skunk...of course it would be de-scented... :)
Used to invade our chicken runs in Idaho - you learn to keep away from the blunt end.
Awww. My mother actually had a pet skunk as a child (of course, they had him de-scented).
I think there is a picture somewhere when my brothers were young holding baby skunks.
I've never seen anyone hold a skunk! Neat.
